  • Community Event: NATURALIST LED HIKES in JACKSON – Tin Mountain Summit
    10am – Noon • Tin Mountain Field Station, Jackson
    Meet at the lower parking lot at TMCC, 31 Rockwell Dr (off Tin Mine Road), in Jackson, NH. Tin Mountain’s naturalist will explain the historic use of the property, help identify plant species, and point out animal signs. Participants of all ages a welcome.  Program fee of $5/person or $20/family; members free.

  • Community Event: WEDNESDAYS at WILDCAT – Hike to Thompson Brook Falls
    Noon- 2pm • Wildcat Mountain Ski Area, Pinkham Notch
    Explore Pinkham Notch with a Tin Mountain naturalist and learn about the diverse ecology of the region. Program topics change weekly and range from learning about the flora and fauna of the forest and fresh water ecosystems to those of the higher alpine environment, including wildflowers, mosses, waterfalls, frogs, and moose to the geology of the surrounding mountains and Presidential Range. Programs are free and open to the public. Alpine program requires the purchase of a gondola ticket. More info.

  • Community Event: ECOFORUM – Aerial Insectivores: The Who, What, Where, and Why of an Emerging Conservation Issue Noon • Nature Learning Center, Albany
    Aerial insectivores are birds that feed on insects captured in flight, and include nightjars, swifts, flycatchers, and swallows. Dr. Pamela Hunt, NH Audubon, will provide an overview of these species’ biology and population trends. An optional field component will follow the EcoForum presentation.
  • Community Event: NATURALIST LED BOAT CRUISE

    Location: Meet at the Silver Lake Boat Launch on East Shore Road in Silver Lake, NH. Tin Mountain Conservation Center is teaming up with Fish Nerds Guide Service to offer 90-minute boat cruises. Price: $25/person, $15/child 16 and under. $5 discount for TMCC members. Due to the limited space on the cruises, reservations are required.     Who lives north of the notch? Join us for a pictorial exploration of the wildlife of northern New Hampshire offered by Tin Mountain Conervsation staff. Focus on the animals that call Lake Umbagog area home, including moose, osprey, loons, and bald eagles.

    Do you take photos with your phone when out on the trails? Turn your mobile device into a reporting tool with iNaturalist and join other citizen scientists by documenting the flowering plants you observe on your next hike. By participating you can contribute to AMC’s Mountain Watch study. Join AMC staff science, Georgia Murray and Annie Evankow to learn more about the program, the results and how you can participate.

    Crows are intelligent and adaptable birds. Dana and Bob Fox will share what they have learned about 25,000 wintering crows over two years through detailed observation and much reading.  They will share what crows do, don’t do and how they change their minds.

  • Community Event: BIRDING at BROWNFIELD BOG (Tin Mountain Conservation Center program)
    7-10am • Meet at G&S Store in Brownfield, Maine
    Join birders of all levels on this weekly bird walk through the bog and view the rich diversity of bird life that makes it way north to rest or nest. Bring binoculars (or borrow ours), rubber boots, and a snack. Our final week will be via canoe!

Admin Building of Nativity Lutheran ChurchJackson Community Church will have a team of volunteers helping with this project: wear your paint clothes and help brighten up the kitchen and lounge areas in the first floor of the administrative building on the Nativity Lutheran Church, which will be home to the Way Station. Paint supplies will be provided; bring your energy and enthusiasm! Once open, this day resource center will meet basic needs for homeless teens, families and adults in the Mt Washington Valley: laundry, showers, internet access, post office box, social and emotional support, connection to nearby social services.

Featured speaker, Dr. Donna San Antonio, will address the topic “Becoming a White Ally: Stories of Mentoring Toward Social Justice” using personal reflection as a springboard for consideringthe inter-sectionality of race, ethnicity, gender, and social class. Also included in the program will be music by Peg Loughran, Shana Aisenberg and others. Storyteller (and World Fellowship Co-Director) Andy Davis will offer a story. A guilt-free potluck will follow. Continuing the Da Capo tradition of singing popular favorites, the concerts will include arrangements of Gershwin tunes, hits from the 1950s and 1960s, including “California Dreamin’,” “Misty” and “Girl from Ipanema,” and recent releases such as Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years.” The group is co-directed by conductor Mary Bastoni and accompanist John Waldie. Concert is free to the public.

Over 60 years ago America was in the peak of the industrial revolution and the nation’s waterways were dying from dams, water diversions and pollution. Run Wild Run Free takes the viewer through the history and current state of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act that sought to protect these waterways. Join Tin Mountain Conservation Center, the Jackson Conservation Commission, and former Director of Research for the AMC, Dr. Kenneth Kimball, for this celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. Cost: $3/pp or $5/family.
